Our Practice in San Francisco

Dr. Tawil has been proudly serving the City of San Francisco for many years. After receiving his Bachelor of Sciences degree from the University of California, Irvine, he completed his post-graduate degree as a Doctor of Optometry from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Tawil went on to complete his residency as a Low Vision Rehabilitation Optometrist at The Center for The Partially Sighted (CPS) in Santa Monica, California. After his residency, he entered the world of academics and served as an adjunct faculty optometrist at Pacific University and the VA hospital in Portland, Oregon.

In private practice for over 7 years, Dr. Tawil is happy to serve the City of San Francisco by providing comprehensive eye exams and ocular health checks. He also has a vast knowledge of specialty contact lenses.

Dr. Joy Ohara is a California native who has a life-long dedication to eye care. She worked as an ophthalmic technician and optometry staff while completing her degrees at UC Berkeley. Dr. Ohara completed her residency in low vision at the University of Houston and stayed on to become adjunct faculty.

Dr. Ohara is back in San Francisco helping patients of all ages with their eye care needs. She has a decade of experience in primary eye and specialty contact lens care. In her free time, she loves reading graphic novels and listening to NPR.

With a career spanning design, fashion, and art—including years spent designing eyewear—I have found OPT my perfect home away from home in my retirement.

I enjoy finding the perfect pair of glasses for any face by getting to know each person and understanding what is going to make them shine. The amazing doctors and staff along with a fabulous selection of frames make it easy and fun.

Sidney McCambridge has always had a love for fashion, accessories, and anything that includes style. While she’s currently a college student with a primary major in psychology, she finds working at O p t Optometric gives her a space to help others try and unlock their own passion for a style that fits them.

Allan Hosmer has worked as an optician for 18 of his 20 years living in San Francisco. He has a wide lens and frame knowledge and is ready to meet all of your eyewear needs. When he’s not ogling new frame collections you can find Allan playing pinball or walking his dog.

Lou Tawil is a “chiweenie” rescue dog that has quickly become the star of the office. Hopelessly devoted to Dr. Tawil, he can be found close by his side. Lou shows a special interest in each patient, particularly if they are carrying food, and he is here to support you through your eye exam and frame styling.
